Therapy Center for Children Presents “Praxis: Evaluation and Treatment of the Clumsy Child”

On February 25-26, The Therapy Center for Children, LLC will present “Praxis: Evaluation and Treatment of the Clumsy Child.” The two-day conference will be held at the Holiday Inn, 3845 Veterans Memorial Highway, Ronkonkoma.

Barbara H. Connolly, PT, DPT, Ed.D., FAPTA will discuss new techniques that really work in the treatment of praxis. Dr. Connolly is currently Professor Emeritus at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center, where she served as Chair of the Physical Therapy Department for 24 years. She is currently the President of the International Organization of Physical Therapists in Pediatrics, a subgroup of the World Confederation of Physical Therapy.

This course will provide practical and effective intervention strategies for school-age children who still struggle with motor skills that their peers have already mastered. Upon completing the course, participants will be able to define and explain what is meant by clumsiness, developmental incoordination disorder and developmental dyspraxia; summarize the proposed underlying causes of praxis problems and identify the characteristics of the child with praxis problems; identify the components of an adequate evaluation for the child, including standardized and non-standardized methods; and develop activities that would be appropriate for the child with praxis problems for home, school and social environments.

The course is an approved provider of 18 contact hours by the New York State Board of Physical Therapy. Registration begins at 8 a.m. on February 25 and the course starts on 8:30 a.m. On February 26, a continental breakfast will be served starting at 7 a.m., with the course beginning at 7:30 a.m.

Registration is $425. A group rate (three or more) is available for $399 and must be mailed or faxed together. Enrollment is limited. Please make checks out to Education Resources, Inc. and mail to: Education Resources, Inc., 266 Main St., Suite 12, Medfield, MA, 02052. For more information, call (800) 487-6530.
